🇮🇷❌🇺🇸— Iran’s Anti-Ship Ballistic Missile Use Signals an Offensive Shift

Iran’s recent use of anti-ship ballistic missiles marks a notable shift toward a more offensive maritime posture and could be an early sign of efforts to directly challenge and eventually break the U.S. naval blockade.

These missiles offer Iran two major advantages over cruise missiles and drones. First, their optical seekers allow them to identify and precisely home in on moving ships during the terminal phase. Second, they descend from high altitude at very high speed, giving defending warships far less time to detect, track and intercept them.

Their recent employment therefore suggests Iran is beginning to use weapons designed not only to defend its coastline, but to actively threaten the naval forces enforcing the blockade.
