U.S. Treasury Reportedly Pressures Iraq Over Iran Border Crossings

Al Hadath reported that the U.S. Department of the Treasury has informed the Iraqi government that it must close its land border crossings with Iran and prevent Iranian aircraft from landing at Iraqi airports.

The reported measures could have a significant economic impact, as Iran-Iraq trade exceeded $10 billion in 2025, while Iraq also pays Iran approximately $4–5 billion annually for natural gas used in electricity generation.

The Al Hadath report has not yet been independently confirmed by the U.S. Treasury or Iraqi authorities.
