TON performance update

With the August 17 update, TON mainnet validators transitioned to a new collator-based architecture. The update has been running stably on mainnet.

The rollout of planned limit increases began on August 27. The first change raised leader_window from 4 to 16.

Single-shardchain performance tests

Two tests were conducted on mainnet to measure single-shardchain performance using a workload that simulated jetton transfers:

August 25, approximately 10:30 UTC: an input load of approximately 1,200 TPS.

September 4, approximately 11:30 UTC: an input load of approximately 1,500 TPS.

In the latest test, a single shardchain processed 600–650 TPS in sub-second mode for this workload. As the input load increased further, the shardchain split into two. After split operation latency increased, but the block production rate remained stable.

Next steps

Work to increase single-shardchain performance will continue. The current target is 1,000–2,000 TPS per shardchain.

As a reminder, single-shardchain throughput is not the throughput limit of the entire TON blockchain. TON can run many shardchains in parallel, allowing the network to scale beyond the capacity of any individual shardchain.

🌐 Another Independent Node for TON

For a long time, the main node in the TON blockchain was the one developed by the TON Core team in C++. But over time, alternative implementations began to appear in the ecosystem. The most notable so far has been the Rust node. And now gton has joined them — a full node written from scratch in Go by developer xssnick.

For those not deeply into technical details: a node is a program that connects to the TON network, downloads all the blocks, and allows you to interact with the blockchain directly. The more different nodes, the better.

For comparison: Ethereum has several independent clients running at once (Geth, Nethermind, Erigon, Reth, Besu, and others). Bitcoin also has multiple implementations — Bitcoin Core, Knots, and several alternatives.

Why are new nodes useful?

They make the network more resilient. If something goes wrong with one implementation (a bug, vulnerability, or high load), the others continue to work. This reduces risks for everyone — from regular users to large services and wallets. There are more access points, higher stability, and less dependence on a single source.

For example, in 2016 Ethereum survived a powerful DoS attack only because, along with the main Geth node, the Parity client was also running — the network didn’t go down while the main version was being fixed. There have also been cases where a single dominant node caused finalization issues and network-wide problems due to its bugs.

gton is not for validators yet, but it works great as a reliable and fast connection to the blockchain for apps, indexers, and project backends. It’s independent, developed separately, and adds another strong option to TON’s infrastructure.

Next technical objective: increasing shardchain performance

Under normal load, TON operates on a single shardchain. Under peak load, dynamic sharding is activated: the network splits into multiple shardchains, increasing throughput while maintaining static fees. In this mode, operation execution time may increase by several seconds.

With TON 2026.05 we start a new series of updates focused on performance improvement of a single shardchain

The objective is to activate dynamic sharding at a load level at which other blockchains cannot operate effectively.

Acton launched on May 11. We’ve already built a game with it

On May 11, TON introduced Acton — a new toolchain for smart contract development. Not just another utility, but an attempt to bring the entire developer workflow into one place: from project creation and writing contracts in Tolk to testing and deployment.

This is an important shift. The easier it becomes to write contracts, the faster TON will see not only tokens and NFTs, but real on-chain applications: games, social mechanics, and experiments with large-scale user interactions.

We decided to test this in practice and built Color War:
color-war.typa.top

It’s a pixel game where every pixel is a separate autonomous smart contract. A player chooses a color, selects an area, and sends a transaction through a TON wallet. After confirmation, the changes appear on the canvas in real time.

The field is already 140x140 — that’s 19,600 independent pixel-contracts. Architecturally, it can scale much further because each pixel’s address is deterministically calculated from its coordinates.

For us, Color War is more than just a pixel battle. It’s a live stress test for TON: wallets, indexing, UX, real-time updates, and mass transactions. With a W5 wallet, a player can repaint up to 100 pixels in a single confirmation, meaning one user can generate a whole batch of on-chain actions at once.

And this clearly shows why TON is well suited for these kinds of experiments: lots of small independent contracts, fast confirmations, low transaction costs, and solid user UX on top of blockchain infrastructure.

Acton matters here not as some abstract “developer tool,” but as something that shortens the distance between an idea and a working product. We wrote a Tolk contract, built the mechanics, connected the frontend, indexing, and real-time canvas — and now people can actually play it.

Tools like this bring TON closer to the point where developers no longer need to spend months setting up infrastructure, but can simply take an idea and launch an on-chain application.

🤑 Durov says TON has the most profitable staking

Pavel Durov, as part of his MTONGA program, made another post dedicated to TON. This time he highlighted the highest staking yield among the 50 largest cryptocurrencies — over 18%

Such profitability became possible due to the recent Catchain 2.0 update. The block generation speed in the network increased sixfold (from 2.5 seconds to 400 ms). Since validators are rewarded for each created block, the technical acceleration of the network directly led to an increase in profitability for those who stake their coins. This made TON the most profitable asset for passive income among market leaders

Many are concerned that high yields usually mean high inflation. Indeed, mathematically TON inflation temporarily increased from 0.6% to 3.6% per year. However, in the market context this is still a good indicator: Solana’s inflation started at 8%, Polkadot is steadily around 10%, Cosmos — 10%, Aptos — ~7%, Sui — 4%. Moreover, inflation will decrease over time, since validator rewards are fixed and will not grow over time. At the same time, with increased activity, burning may also increase

The easiest way to try staking is through @wallet directly in Telegram. There you can also buy TON/USDT with a card or via bank transfer through the P2P market. And for those ready for more active strategies, futures are available in the ecosystem, allowing trading with leverage (Wallet link)

In the end, a technical blockchain upgrade turned into a pleasant side effect

💎 TON Whale Bet: $5.39M Long on TON

According to a high-signal report from Lookonchain, a large institutional player has made a significant move in the TON ecosystem. Over the last five hours, whale address 0xee25 opened a 1.97M $TON long position, valued at approximately $5.39M with 3x leverage.

Lookonchain notes this as a strong signal of institutional confidence. The liquidation level is set at $0.944, suggesting the position is not a short-term trade but a longer-term directional bet. In other words, “smart money” appears to be positioning for sustained upside rather than short-term volatility.

Such flows are often monitored as sentiment indicators, especially when large leveraged positions accumulate in a relatively tight time window.

You can also access TON markets directly via @wallet inside Telegram, which provides a unified interface for P2P purchases and futures trading within the TON ecosystem.

💎 Durov’s comment. Is TON the most decentralized blockchain?

Today Pavel Durov posted on Twitter that “very few people realize how decentralized the TON network is.” And this is not just a statement made for attention — it is backed by cold mathematics and the Nakamoto coefficient.

Recall that this coefficient shows how many participants in a network need to collude in order to stop the system or change its rules. The higher it is, the freer and more decentralized the network is.

For example, Bitcoin and Ethereum do not look very strong in this ranking, having a critically low Nakamoto coefficient (only 1–2). In Bitcoin, more than 50% of mining power is concentrated in two mining pools, while in Ethereum dominance comes from services like Lido and exchanges such as Coinbase. Collusion or a failure in just these two points could paralyze transaction finalization across the entire network, making it dependent on the decisions of a few corporations.

📈 What makes TON strong?

The Nakamoto coefficient is 78. To disrupt transaction finalization, you would need to coordinate 78 independent validators out of 400. That is dozens of times harder than coordinating two pools in BTC. And to actually compromise TON, you would need to coordinate an even larger number of participants — 215.

At the same time, TON’s high Nakamoto coefficient does not come at the expense of speed. Thanks to Catchain 2.0, the network manages to be one of the fastest among major blockchains, while remaining dozens of times more resistant to collusion than the “old giants” of the industry.

🐳 TON Whale Flip

Significant activity has been spotted on Hyperliquid as one of the ecosystem’s largest traders shifts strategy. Key highlights:

Position Reversal: The network's leading shorter has closed a $6M short position and begun a massive pivot, targeting a total long position of up to $16M.
Current Accumulation: The trader already holds over $600,000 in longs and continues to scale into the position as the market stabilizes.
Market Context: Previously, this whale opened a 3M TON short, causing a local 12% price dip. This aggressive "flip" to the long side signals a major sentiment shift among institutional-grade players.

The most convenient way to monitor the market and manage your assets is via @wallet directly in Telegram. The service allows you to not only trade futures but also quickly purchase cryptocurrency with fiat via P2P or bank card.

TON is more active than in April 2024 🔥

When Pavel Durov first publicly recognized TON in April 2024 and announced the arrival of USDT, it was a legendary moment. The news was widely covered across media, and more and more players entered the blockchain ecosystem.

But surprisingly, the current average daily number of transactions in TON is now higher than in those “golden” times. This has even offset the sixfold reduction in fees, keeping validator rewards and burn volume at roughly the same level.

Today, the network processes over 6 million transactions per day — the highest figure since January 2025.

📈 For an objective comparison, we visualized the TPS (transactions per second) and compared key milestones: the announcement of MTONGA’s 3-step rollout and Pavel Durov’s appearance on stage at the Token2049 conference.

💎 TON Network Activity Increases 4x

The TON ecosystem has seen a sharp surge in user activity over the past 24 hours. Key drivers include:

New Staking Data: Pavel Durov has become the network's largest validator (with 190M TON staked across 50 validators), significantly strengthening the network's decentralization

Community Inflow: There is a massive migration of the Solana community to TON, which has boosted overall blockchain activity by 3–4 times in a single day

✈️ Telegram has become a TON validator for the first time in several years

5 hours ago, Telegram publicly became a validator. In doing so, it officially strengthened its integration with the The Open Network (TON) blockchain. This step marks a new stage in the relationship between the popular messaging app and the independent blockchain originally created by Pavel Durov’s team.

In 2019, Durov’s team themselves launched and maintained validators on TON during the period when the network was still in a test phase. However, in January 2020, they ended their participation due to the SEC dispute and their exit from the project.

In TON, validators are key network participants who: verify and confirm transactions, participate in consensus (Catchain 2.0), produce new blocks, ensure network security and decentralization, take part in key governance votes.

One such vote is the MTONGA step 2 initiative announced by Pavel Durov — a reduction of all types of gas fees (including transaction fees). The validator voting has already started, and at the time of posting, 112 out of 400 votes have been collected. You can track the event at vote.lagus.cooking (a resource made by a developer from Ton Core).

Thus, Telegram has returned to TON validation for the first time in years and can now participate in voting on network improvements.

💎 TON is 15x Faster than Solana in Finalization

In TON, after the Catchain 2.0 upgrade (the first step of MTONGA according to Pavel Durov), a transaction achieves full finality in approximately 0.8 seconds. Blocks are produced every 400 ms, and the powerful consensus allows validators to reach irreversible agreement almost instantly. Thus, within 400 ms the transaction is confirmed in the shardchain, and after another 400 ms it enters the masterchain and becomes fully irreversible.

In Solana, blocks are also produced every ~400 ms, but full finalization (finalized) requires about 32 consecutive block confirmations — this takes 12–13 seconds. Many Solana projects consciously take the risk and show users that the transaction is completed after just 1–2 seconds, although at that point there is still a possibility of a fork and block rollback.

This detail was noted by the authors of The Open Dev Blog, and TON core developer Anatoly Makosov agreed with it. He also explained that in TON the "confirmed" status is assigned as soon as validators accept the shardchain block with the transaction. From this moment, the block is considered valid, and the probability of the operation being cancelled tends to zero. Client applications and wallets can safely show the operation as completed already at the confirmed stage.

The only thing that may change between confirmed and finalized is the block hash (with a probability of about 1%). That is why exchanges and high-risk services wait for the finalized status, while regular users receive practically instant confirmation.

As a result, in TON a transaction becomes truly irreversible in 0.8 seconds, while in Solana it takes 12–13 seconds. The difference in real finalization is approximately 15 times in favor of TON.

Sub-Second is Live

The vote to enable Sub-Second has passed, and the blockchain has switched to the new high-speed mode.

The blockchain is currently running stably.

About 7% of validators have not yet updated, so the block production rate is still slightly below the target

We ask validators who have not yet updated to do so.

API developers and product developers — please make sure everything is working properly in your services.
