📌 Tehran, IRNA – Iran will emphasize regional security arrangements free from foreign interference, opposition to Israeli military acts of aggression, and stronger economic cooperation among Islamic countries at the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Iran’s ambassador to Iraq, Mohammad Kazem Al-e Sadegh, told IRNA.
Scheduled for October 17–18, 2026, the meeting is being held under the theme “Dialogue and Solidarity: Two Essential Pillars for Promoting Peace and Sustainable Development.” Baghdad is hosting the gathering after more than four decades, offering Iraq an opportunity to strengthen its diplomatic role in the Islamic world.
In an interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Al-e Sadegh said the Islamic world faced mounting challenges, including developments in Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria, as well as crises in Yemen, Sudan, and Afghanistan. He also referred to the US and Israeli military action against Iran and tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
He said the meeting should move beyond issuing statements and produce practical mechanisms to halt the Israeli regime’s acts of aggression, resolve disputes through dialogue and uphold the national sovereignty of member states. According to the ambassador, genuine peace requires an end to occupation and respect for the right of Muslim peoples to self-determination.
Al-e Sadegh described Iraq’s rotating presidency of the OIC ministerial council as an opportunity for Baghdad to facilitate dialogue and bring Arab and regional countries closer together. He said Iraq’s geographic position and balanced diplomatic approach could help advance collective security, economic exchanges and peaceful dispute settlement.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is leading the Iranian delegation during this meeting. Al-e Sadegh said Araghchi would present Tehran’s positions on recent regional developments and propose practical measures to support the Palestinian and Lebanese people.
The Iranian delegation also plans intensive bilateral and multilateral consultations with Islamic countries’ foreign ministers to strengthen direct communication, reduce misunderstandings and pursue joint projects.
Al-e Sadegh added that Araghchi’s repeated visits to Iraq reflected the strategic importance of bilateral relations, citing cooperation in security, judicial and economic affairs, infrastructure, transit and border management.
