📌 Tehran, IRNA – Deputy chief of the Iranian Army for coordination Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari says the Strait of Hormuz remains closed and that any passage through the strategic waterway must be coordinated with Iranian forces who maintain full control and surveillance over the area.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday on the sidelines of a ceremony honoring army nurses, Sayyari said the situation was evident from oil flows and rising gasoline prices in the United States.
He said the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy maintains a strong presence west of the Strait of Hormuz, while the Iranian Army operates east of it, extending northward into the Sea of Oman.
If any passage takes place, it must be coordinated; otherwise, people will see in the news what happens, Sayyari said.
He reiterated that the situation demonstrated the strait’s closure, arguing that if the waterway were open, oil would be passing through and gasoline prices in the United States and other countries would not be rising.
Sayyari said the continued efforts by those countries to secure gasoline and diesel supplies further showed that the strait remained closed.
The Strait of Hormuz, located between Iran and Oman, is a vital international energy route which has seen disruptions since early March, several days after the US and Israel launched their war of aggression against Iran. The Islamic Republic of Iran has put its own regulations for navigation through the waterway as part of defensive measures.
