📌 Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s space industry could become a strategic gateway to future energy and mineral resources, playing a growing role in managing quality of life and addressing major global challenges, the head of Iran’s Space Agency said on Wednesday.
Hassan Salarieh said the space sector was a strategic priority for Iran and, alongside fields such as artificial intelligence and biotechnology, would play a decisive role in energy, mineral resource use and productivity management.
He said global forecasts pointed to major growth in space capabilities after 2026, with countries entering an increasingly intense competition to develop and access these technologies.
Salarieh said access to resources beyond Earth and the management of outer space could become as strategically important to global affairs as the Strait of Hormuz is to the world’s energy markets.
Countries capable of exploiting such resources would therefore gain significant influence in global affairs, he said.
Salarieh also pointed to growing constraints on energy and material resources, saying the space sector would be a key area for addressing those challenges and that Iranian specialists were working to develop the country’s capabilities in the field.
