🆕 Apple unveils new Mac mini and Mac Studio

🙂 Mac mini gets the M6 chip: Apple's first 2nm silicon, packing 12 cores and graphics with memory bandwidth up to 160 GB/s. The base model with 16GB RAM and M6 starts at $899, while M5 Pro configurations start at $1,699.

🙂 Mac Studio with M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips offers up to 36 CPU cores, 80 GPU cores, and up to 512GB of unified memory with bandwidth up to 1.2 TB/s. Pricing starts at $2,499 for the M5 Max version and $5,499 for M5 Ultra.

🔎 Both machines feature the new Apple N1 chip with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 support, plus storage speeds up to 15 GB/s (twice as fast as before). Mac mini comes standard with 2.5 Gbit Ethernet, upgradeable to 10 Gbit.

📅 Both devices launch September 22, running macOS 27 Golden Gate.

🆕 Foldable iPhone: first impressions

📰 According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, testers who've gotten hands-on time with Apple's upcoming foldable iPhone say it feels comfortable to hold and slips easily into a pocket. The hinge is reportedly quiet and barely noticeable when open, and the inner display runs an iPad-style app layout.

😐 But the premium price tag comes with trade-offs. The device is expected to ship with Touch ID instead of Face ID, and the camera setup won't include a telephoto lens.

💵 On pricing, there's actually some good news: Gurman now expects the foldable to launch around $2,000 which is lower than the $2,400 figure floated in earlier rumors.

💭 ChatGPT can now text people for you

📰 OpenAI gave ChatGPT the ability to read, write, and send iMessages on your behalf. You can ask it to dig through your chat with your boss to find a deadline, or — per OpenAI's own demo — have it "write a poem about soup and send it to a friend." Yeah, that's apparently the bar for useful use cases right now.

ℹ️ To do any of this, it needs to hoover up your entire message history first. That means your bank's SMS notifications, financial details, inside jokes, personal stuff with friends and family, all of it gets fed in, presumably so that when you ask "what should I get my friend for their birthday," it can hallucinate something halfway decent.

🤖 OpenAI says the bot won't just start firing off messages to random people without your permission. Whether that holds up in practice is something users get to find out themselves.

🎧 AirPods with built-in cameras spotted in macOS 26.7 RC beta

🔎 A short clip found in the pre-release build of macOS 26.7 shows someone holding a book close to their face at just the right angle for the cameras built into the upcoming AirPods.

🤪 Siri's voiceover explains that all you need to do is ask her to remember something you've seen, and she'll save it. The assistant will also be able to read the surrounding environment through the cameras — for instance, giving an accurate weather forecast based on what it sees. And if your hair covers the earbuds, Siri will politely ask you to move it.

📷 The firmware also contains references to a codename, B790 which is reportedly the internal name for the upcoming camera-equipped AirPods.

🔜 The announcement is expected as early as September, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Ultra.

📍Apple's next Mac mini will be built in Texas

🤝 Less than a year after Tim Cook's meeting with Trump at the White House, Apple has already opened a factory in Houston, set up production lines, and started assembling Apple Intelligence servers there.

🙂 Next up: production of the new Mac mini, kicking off before the end of 2026.

📰 Cook shared these plans while opening Apple's Advanced Manufacturing Center in Houston — an education hub attached to the factory that will train the next generation of American engineers. Right now it's mainly for Apple employees learning new processes, but the company plans to open it to local college students too, with lectures on PCB design and hands-on access to real equipment.

🇺🇸 Overall, Apple aims to invest up to $600B in the US economy and support 450,000 jobs nationwide. This is the pledge Cook made to Trump last year.

😐 Leaked screen protectors for the foldable iPhone's outer display just surfaced online

📸 The photos reportedly match the device's real shape: asymmetric bezels (square on the left, rounded on the right) and a front camera tucked into the right corner, not centered or left-aligned as earlier rumors suggested. By the way, Mark Gurman recently pushed back on doubts about the "iPhone Ultra" name, saying that's simply what Apple calls it internally.

📆 On the release side, Australian outlet ChannelNews claims Apple will unveil the foldable iPhone at its September 8 event but hold off on selling it alongside the iPhone 18 Pro. Citing supply chain sources, they say production hiccups mean the U.S. will get it first, with China and Australia following later, echoing the staggered rollouts of the original iPhone and Vision Pro.

⬆️ Worth treating with some skepticism though, since the carriers and retailers may just be echoing other analysts' guesses rather than confirmed plans.

🤪 Apple turned Siri into a sphere

🆕 After a three-week wait, Apple just dropped beta 5 and it brings fresh app icons for:

Plus some subtle tweaks to other system apps. Apple’s still refining the Liquid Glass look ahead of the public launch next month.

🤔 Apple rethinking the entire Watch lineup

📰 Mark Gurman writes, Apple's industrial design team has been quietly exploring a much bigger overhaul of the Apple Watch than usual and it could end up being as dramatic as the iPhone's jump to a foldable form factor.

Reported directions:
🩺 A more AI-driven wearable strategy overall, including a revamped Health app reportedly overseen by Eddy Cue, backed by new sensors — among them a long-rumored blood glucose monitor for future generations.

⌚️ Watches with different screen types and sizes are being considered. A round display has apparently been discussed too, though Gurman says it's unlikely to actually ship anytime soon.

📿 A screen-free wearable is also said to be under exploration — possibly something closer to a smart pendant.

💎 On top of that, Apple has reportedly weighed adding a premium tier above the Ultra and Hermès models, plus a cheaper option below the current SE.

ℹ️ None of 2026's models are expected to bring a design change – that's said to be saved for this year or next, possibly with a return of the ceramic case option. Expect new colors and bands instead, while the real focus this cycle is on health features, fitness tracking, and faster chips.

📸 Apple has brought its long-running "Relax, it's iPhone" platform to out-of-home advertising for the first time, replacing its signature pristine product shots with iPhones covered in dirt, scratches, water, and everyday wear.

📰 By the way: an iPhone 17 Pro fell out of a Cessna during a flight, dropped 1km+, and survived

US artist Heather Kline was shooting aerial photos when the wind ripped the phone from her hands over a rapeseed field. She'd just bought it days earlier — so she immediately used Find My iPhone on her Apple Watch to grab GPS coords, then drove out with her husband to find it.

Result: zero damage, fully working, cameras intact — and the flight plan was still on screen. The soft field landing probably saved it.
