CPU: Both 10-core (4 performance + 6 efficiency). M5 has ~12% better single-core IPC, 15-20% faster multi-threaded.
GPU: Both 10-core, but M5's 3rd-gen ray tracing and Neural Accelerator per core give 35-45% better graphics, 4x AI compute.
Neural Engine: M5’s 16-core NPU is up to 3.5x faster for AI (e.g., 3.6x faster LLMs, 1.8x video enhancement).
Memory Bandwidth: M4 at 120GB/s; M5 at 153GB/s (~30% faster).
Cache: M5 has 6MB L2 per performance core (vs M4’s 4MB).
Extras: M5 adds in-house Wi-Fi/5G/Bluetooth radio in some devices, up to 2x faster SSDs.
Total: M5 shines for AI-heavy tasks (e.g., Premiere Pro speech enhancement) and graphics (1.7x faster Blender ray tracing). M4 is still great for daily use.
