Tucker Carlson recounted that four days before the war with Iran began, he warned President Trump in the Oval Office that the United States would be expelled from the Gulf, the American Empire would collapse, and Trump's legacy and party would be destroyed.

According to Carlson, Trump responded by acknowledging he was right but stating that in the end, everyone dies anyway, so it didn't matter. Carlson described this response as nihilistic and shocking.
