InteRussia

Today’s spotlight is on the man, the myth, the meme encyclopedia — happy birthday to our very own Aleksandr Novikov! 🎉

Sanechek is more than just the curator of our International Relations and Engineering tracks — he’s InteRussia’s chief Africanist, memeologist-in-residence, and a living bridge between continents, cultures, and craft beers.

He can explain African geopolitics in flawless Czech while simultaneously ranking the top 5 lagers of the season. He brings clarity to complex regional dynamics — and perfect timing to every punchline. And when it comes to our fellows from Africa, he’s not just a coordinator — he’s their family.

Aleksandr, may your year be full of new missions to African capitals, unforgettable conversations with the brightest minds, and a never-ending supply of dark lager (ideally with the right degree of bitterness and no airport delays).

We raise our virtual mugs to you — for your humor, heart, and heroic spreadsheets 🧡

The event that changed the world 🚀

On April 12, 1961, Yuri Gagarin became the first human to journey into outer space aboard the spacecraft Vostok 1. In just 108 minutes, he made a full orbit around Earth — and forever changed how we see our planet and ourselves.

The Day of Human Space Flight marks that historic moment when the impossible became possible — a spark that lit the path for exploration, innovation, and daring to go beyond the familiar.

✨ At InteRussia, we believe that a single courageous step can ignite an era of groundbreaking discoveries. Our fellowships are a space for ideas to grow, borders to blur, and futures to take shape.

Ready to change the world? The universe is calling — unveil your cosmic message and apply for a fellowship to boost your professional skills.

Where Stories Live: A Journey Through the Russian State Library 📝

Some buildings whisper their history — others speak it out loud. For the InteRussia fellows in Oriental Studies, a visit to the legendary Russian State Library and Pashkov House was a step into the soul of Russian cultural memory.

Today, the Russian State Library stands as the country’s largest and one of the world’s greatest — a quiet giant filled with over 47 million stories. And at its heart lies Pashkov House, where it all began, guarding some of the rarest and most delicate treasures of the written word.

During a tour of the House that preserves the memory of the most fascinating episodes of Russian history, the fellows became acquainted with rare collections of books and manuscripts and also learned how the Pashkov House is reflected in Russian literature.

The participants were guided through the most beautiful halls of the House, which offer panoramic views of the capital's main landmarks — the Moscow Kremlin, Ivanovskaya Square, and the Cathedral Squares. They were also shown its hidden corners and corridors, once walked by people who shaped the history of Russia.

An ordinary afternoon became something quietly magical — proof that sometimes the richest stories aren’t told, they’re felt between the pages, the footsteps, and the silence of old walls.

Moscow Diaries: How International Relations Fellows Spend Their Days 📖

Diplomacy isn’t always suits and summit tables. Sometimes, it looks like curious eyes behind the scenes of a newsroom. Like a conversation that shifts your worldview in one sentence. Like snowfall outside a lecture hall.

For our fellows, each day in Moscow unfolds like a new chapter in a global story — full of insight, discovery, and connection.

So what does their life consist of during the InteRussia program?

🔸At RT headquarters, fellows stepped behind the scenes to see how news is crafted, challenged, and delivered to the world. Live studios, editorial debates — no filter.

🔸In conversation with Fyodor Lukyanov, Editor-in-Chief of Russia in Global Affairs magazine, the group dug into the idea of a world majority and beyond — exploring the shifting tides of global power with someone who’s helping shape the discourse.

🔸At the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, they got hands-on with the future — experimenting with cutting-edge tools like photonics labs.

Back on campus, they dive into lectures, build research projects, and share laughter under an unexpected April snow.

From newsroom to think tank, from lab to lecture hall, the InteRussia fellowship isn’t just a professional development program — it’s a passport to a deeper understanding of the world we share.
