After exploring how to think in uncertainty, our IR fellows turned to a deeper question: how global institutions themselves are evolving. This time, the discussion continued with Kirill Logvinov, Director of the Department of International Organizations at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
At the center — a fundamental question: does the current system of international organizations still work?
Here’s what stood out:
📌The UN still matters. But without reform — especially when it comes to the Security Council — its ability to respond to today’s challenges is under pressure.
📌When it comes to representation in the Security Council, the logic is straightforward: first make the system function effectively — and only then reconsider who sits at the table.
📌The Global South is no longer on the sidelines. Its voice is getting louder, and it’s reshaping the conversation.
📌BRICS is gaining momentum. Not as a replacement, but as a platform that is gradually influencing how international cooperation is built.
Beyond simplified narratives — an attempt to understand how global institutions adapt in times of transformation and turbulence.
