📲 Instagram expands teen accounts to HK, TW and APAC
#news #Insta

Meta is launching “teen accounts” on Instagram in Hong Kong, the Asia-Pacific region, and Taiwan, aimed at users under 16. These accounts will have stricter privacy settings, limiting who can contact teens and the content they see. Key features include default private accounts, restricted messaging settings, sensitive content controls, and automatic anti-bullying features.

Parents will have access to a supervision tool to monitor their teen’s activity, set daily usage limits, and restrict Instagram use at certain times. Teens will need parental approval to change privacy settings. The changes come after similar restrictions were implemented in Singapore to protect young users online.

📲 Instagram brings Teen Accounts to India with parental controls
#news #Insta

Instagram is rolling out a new feature called “Teen Accounts” in India, designed to create a safer, age-appropriate online experience for users under 16. The feature includes automatic privacy settings, such as private accounts by default, where teens must approve followers, and non-followers cannot view or message them. Instagram also restricts exposure to sensitive content and filters out offensive language.

To combat addiction, the platform will send reminders to take breaks and activate Sleep Mode at night. Parents will soon be able to monitor their teens’ activity, set daily time limits, and block the app during certain hours. This move comes ahead of India’s upcoming Digital Personal Data Protection Act, which requires companies to collect parental consent for minors.

📲 Instagram Releases Trial Reels to Help Creators Reach New Audiences
#news #Insta

Before 2024 ended, Instagram introduced a new feature called “Trial Reels” to help creators experiment with their content without affecting their brand or followers. These trial reels are only visible to non-followers for 24 hours, allowing creators to gauge engagement before posting them publicly.

Creators can also set metrics to auto-publish the reel if those goals are met within 72 hours. Trial Reels are visible only to the creators in their drafts, but followers may see them if shared through direct messages or search. This feature is now widely available to creators.

📲 AI-made ads on Facebook and Instagram will carry clearer labels
#news #Insta

Meta is enhancing transparency for AI-generated ads on Facebook and Instagram by implementing clearer labeling. The company will label ads created or significantly altered using its generative AI tools, as well as those using third-party tools like OpenAI's and Google's. Labels will be prominently displayed when AI generates photorealistic humans or makes major edits, ensuring users are aware of the AI involvement.

This initiative aims to prevent misleading content and improve user awareness as the presence of AI-generated media grows. While users can delete AI-related memories, there is currently no opt-out option for these personalized features.

📲 Instagram Adds In-Stream Translations for DMs
#news #Insta

Instagram has introduced a new feature that allows users to translate their direct messages (DMs) directly within the app. The translation option enables users to translate messages into their native language, making communication easier, especially with international contacts. However, there’s a privacy concern, as the translated text is sent to Meta’s servers, even in end-to-end encrypted chats, to provide translations.

Meta assures users that most identifying information, like names and credit card numbers, is removed before processing. While the feature simplifies cross-border communication, businesses could particularly benefit from this for international engagement. However, for those with privacy concerns, using a third-party service like Google Translate might be a safer alternative.

📲 Instagram Shares Notes on Stories Ranking
#news #Insta

Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri, recently explained how Stories are ranked, debunking myths about reach restrictions. He clarified that Stories are mainly designed for connecting with your existing audience, rather than for broad discovery, as the feed (dominated by AI recommendations) is better suited for that.

To succeed with Stories in 2025, creators should focus on engaging their core followers with timely, behind-the-scenes content. Key ranking factors include the likelihood of users tapping, liking, or replying to a Story. Driving engagement through interactive elements like polls and messages can help increase your visibility and strengthen community ties over time. Essentially, the more engagement your Stories get, the higher they’ll appear in users’ feeds.
