Dear human nodes,
As we
previously mentioned, we’re migrating from Ubuntu 20.04 to Ubuntu 24.04 as the supported Linux system for running humanode-peer. This means you’ll have to upgrade your node operating system from Ubuntu 20.04 to Ubuntu 24.04.
The mainnet update is scheduled to go live tomorrow (Tuesday).
There are two methods to update your system running the humanode-peer:
1. Create another VM to run the humanode-peer simultaneously with your current node setup. Sync the new VM fully, and then "set keys" to switch to the new node. After that, you can shut down the old VM instance. This is the
preferred and recommended way of doing this update.
Note, you have to insert the mnemonic from your current validator node, so make sure you have access to it.
Here’s a guide to create a new VM and set up your node:
https://link.humanode.io/guide/launcher/remote2. Updating your in-place operating system without full re-synchronization. This method is risky and takes time. Expect your old setup with Ubuntu 20.04 to break with this update, so do not attempt this method if you aren’t ready to deal with it and don't have ample time. The sole purpose of listing the method is that it’s another way to update.
Here’s a guide to an OS update without full resynchronization:

Also, the node will be unavailable for a few minutes while the update is in progress.
Want to test it first?
The update is already live on Testnet 5. You can try it out there to make sure everything runs smoothly before the mainnet.

Be ready, stay prepared.
