Trump DOJ moves to kill Epstein files lawsuit after court setback
The Trump Justice Department is asking a federal judge to throw out journalist Katie Phang’s lawsuit seeking fuller disclosure of the Epstein files, MeidasTouch reported.
The move comes after Judge Emmet Sullivan granted Phang preliminary relief in June and later kept pressure on DOJ over disputed redactions, withheld records and materials it had yet to fully account for.
📑 DOJ declared its 3.5-million-page Epstein release complete in January. But Phang argues the department still withheld records, failed to properly justify redactions and left foreign-language material unreviewed.
Among the disputed material are original FBI notes connected to unverified allegations involving Trump himself. The judge has ordered DOJ to submit some contested material for his own review.
Now Acting AG Todd Blanche wants the case ended at the pleading stage — before the broader fight over what remains behind the black boxes is resolved.
Meanwhile, New Mexico has separately sued DOJ for access to unredacted Epstein records it says are needed for its Zorro Ranch criminal investigation.
