The world’s biggest banks are putting money on blockchain.
And Citi believes this market could become even bigger than stablecoins.
JPMorgan has introduced JPM Coin for institutional clients. Citi is using blockchain technology for corporate payments.
UBS and Mizuho have tested blockchain-based cross-border transfers through Swift.
Are banks creating their own stablecoins?
Something similar. They’re developing tokenised deposits: ordinary bank money represented digitally on a blockchain.
Imagine having $100,000 in your business bank account. Instead of moving it through conventional payment systems, the bank can transfer its digital representation between approved participants, potentially 24/7. The money remains a claim on the regulated bank.
Citi estimates that bank tokens could support $100–140 trillion in annual transactions by 2030, potentially more than stablecoins.
What does this mean for your business?
Tomorrow, your customers might pay in EUR, USD stablecoins or tokenised bank money. You shouldn’t need a different financial platform for every payment method.
That’s what we’re building towards at 🔵Fasqon: one connected banking experience for traditional currencies, digital assets and international payment rails.
The future of money isn’t about one format replacing another. It’s about making them work together.
