Our GoFundMe is live — and this is why we are asking you, rather than an institution, to fund the festival.

We applied for independent grants: funding that would allow Emigration to the Future to remain exactly what it is. What we did not want was to chase money that comes with dependency attached.

When institutions fund a vision of the future, they often define its limits too. And, as a rule, no one actually wants to live in the future that institutions design for them.

The festival is entirely non-profit. There are no tickets. Organizers and participants receive no fees. Those travelling from outside Berlin cover their own expenses.

But a festival built through unpaid work still costs money. Materials, equipment, printing — and even the nails — have to be paid for.

So we are asking the people who want this festival to exist to help us build it.
