๐บ๐ธ๐ Trump administration leaves UK, France and Baltic states out of NATO "future" meeting in Poland
The UK, France and the Baltic states have not been invited to next month's meeting in Poland on NATO's future, Politico reports, citing six diplomats.
The meeting will be led by Pentagon policy chief Elbridge Colby and run as a working group. Colby has already held two smaller meetings of this kind, known as the "Bergen Group," with Norway, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Germany and the Netherlands.
The excluded countries are among Europe's biggest military spenders, and their diplomats are asking why. They fear the move confirms Trump's earlier threat of a "naughty and nice list" for governments that don't fall in line with his agenda.
"We are doing everything that is required of us. We are trying to understand what the criteria are and what the purpose of these meetings is. We have not been told much," said a representative of one uninvited country.
Colby says the idea is to "pull up" the whole alliance and make NATO "better, stronger and more resilient," with Europe taking on more military capability.
