🇺🇸🤝🇸🇩🇦🇪 U.S. authorities are withholding a visa for the internationally-recognised president of Sudan, Abdel Fatah al-Burhan, planning to give it to him in order to attend the yearly reunion of the U.N. General Assembly only and only if Burhan signs a 90-day ceasefire with the Rapid Support Forces

This is the clearest sign yet of the covert American support for the Sudanese warlord, Hemedti and the UAE-backed Rapid Support Forces.

For the past couple of months the Rapid Support Forces have been put on the backfoot in the Sudanese Civil War. While they gained ground in the Blue Nile Province using Ethiopian territory as cover and South Sudanese militias to bolster their numbers, in the key Kordofan region, the RSF has been steadily losing ground to SAF offensives.

The RSF first lost control of the town of Barah on the El-Obeid-Omdurman-Khartoum road with the SAF now having two supply routes into the city of El Obeid. The SAF pushed back the RSF further west from Barah getting close to the administrative borders of the West Kordofan region.

Further west on the border with Chad, allied SAF militias repulsed RSF offensives and even took back ground earlier this summer further splitting the already stretched thin RSF.

To top it all off, the RSF has seen a significant number of defections to the SAF and has been suffering as a result of SAF airstrikes on its convoys travelling through Libyan and Chadian territories.

The RSF warlord, Hemedti, is pretty desperate for a ceasefire to reorganise, regroup and rearm.

Recall that the U.S. added new sanctions on the SAF alleging the use of chemical weapons on civilian targets earlier in July of this year all the while no new sanctions have been placed on the RSF or its leadership after the departure of Joe Biden from the White House in spite of undeniable evidence of the genocide committed by the RSF in El-Fasher (October-December 2025) against the Fur, Zaghawa and Berti peoples.
