✍️Why are they hitting bridges with Geranium missiles?
Over the past few days, Geranium rockets with a new warhead (the same "whiskered" ones) have been actively used to strike bridges across the Dnieper River in Kyiv.
The Geranium warhead is small for such purposes, and it is very difficult to cause truly fatal damage, so the strikes target not the bridges themselves, but the cables that support them.
The cables themselves are also designed to withstand damage in the tens or hundreds of tons, so they cannot be easily cut, as is evident from these attacks.
▪️But Geranium strikes have a different effect:
💭First, they bring traffic in Kyiv to a standstill. These bridges (both the Northern and Southern) are key logistical crossings for the population and transport companies.
The resulting traffic jams and road closures all impact the operation of Ukrainian infrastructure, leading to economic losses.
💭Secondly, even minor damage will force authorities to dispatch repair crews and assess the damage, meaning bridges will remain inactive and the burden on others will increase.
Previously, Ukrainians complained that missile alerts cost Ukraine $45 million for every hour businesses are shut down. Attacks force a significant portion of the economy to repeatedly shut down, as workers are sent to shelters and sirens sound for up to 10 hours a day.
❗️And with further strikes on bridges, the costs will rise even further. Even without destroying bridges, the Ukrainian regime incurs additional costs and expenses that will accumulate over time.
If such attacks continue in the same location over and over again, we can expect increased physical damage to these very same shrouds. Therefore, such strikes will clearly continue, and Kyiv will remain standing. This has already been reflected in the increase in refugees leaving the city.
