Skolkovo Gymnasium hosted an inspiring meeting between students and Tatyana Podladchikova, director of our Center for Engineering Systems and Sciences at Skoltech, an astrophysicist, and recipient of the Alexander Chizhevsky International Medal.
The topic of the lecture was truly captivating—“The Sun in Storm Mode” ☀️
Solar flares and sunspots, the northern lights over Moscow, sudden GPS navigation glitches, and satellites losing altitude: how is all of this connected to a star that’s 150 million kilometers away from us?
The students looked at the Sun through the eyes of space telescopes, traced the path of a solar storm to Earth, and tried to answer the main question: How close is space to us if a routine event on the Sun can instantly disrupt technology on our planet?

Как далеко начинается космос? День знаний в Международной гимназии Сколково 🎓🌌
1 сентября — это не просто начало учебного года, а отличный повод поговорить о больших открытиях с теми, кто только начинает свой путь в мире знаний.
В Гимназии Сколково прошла вдохновляющая встреча школьников с директором нашего Центра инженерных систем и наук Сколтеха, астрофизиком и лауреатом международной медали имени Александра Чижевского Татьяной Подладчиковой.
Тема лекции была по-настоящему захватывающей — «Солнце в режиме шторма» ☀️
Вспышки и пятна на Солнце, северное сияние над Москвой, внезапные сбои GPS-навигации и потеря высоты спутниками: как всё это связано со звездой, которая находится от нас в 150 миллионах километров?
Ребята посмотрели на Солнце глазами космических телескопов, проследили путь солнечной бури до Земли и попытались ответить на главный вопрос: насколько близко к нам космос, если обычное событие на Солнце может в один миг изменить работу технологий на нашей планете?
