Mr Jason Ali — Predicting the Unpredictable: How Data Is Changing Cardiac Surgery Risk

Jason Ali, Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Royal Papworth Hospital and Affiliated Associate Professor at Cambridge, showed how surgeons use data to predict risk before heart surgery.

1. Clinical data can estimate surgical risk, including the chance of death during an operation.

2. A model is only useful if it stays accurate on real patients, so careful validation matters.

3. Surgery increasingly combines doctors' expertise with data-driven tools.

Thank you, Jason, for such a clear look into where data and surgery meet!
