A senior Israeli occupation strategist has published what amounts to a formal doctrine for permanent war, settler dominance, and regional destabilization. It is not a proposal for a new direction, but rather, articulating the strategy that has long quietly governed the occupation.
■ Tamir Hayman, head of the Institute for National Security Studies in Tel Aviv, describes six governing principles of Israeli strategy, including the "primacy of Jewish identity over democracy," the rejection of Arab statehood, and "war as a foundational state."
■ On the US, he argues Washington is a "declining power" that will "abandon Israel in any event," and that dependency on it risks infecting the occupation with progressive values "incompatible with Israel's Jewish character."
