On this day 59 years ago, CIA-trained Bolivian forces executed Che Guevara after capturing him in the Bolivian jungle, where he was waging a guerrilla campaign to ignite an anti-imperialist revolution across Latin America.
■ Born in Argentina and trained as a doctor, Guevara is most well-known for helping lead the July 26 Movement's forces to victory in the Cuban Revolution, and for his revolutionary internationalism.
■ Minutes before Guevara's execution, a Bolivian soldier asked him if he was thinking about his own immortality. "No," he reportedly replied, "I'm thinking about the immortality of the revolution." His famous last words to his executioner were reportedly, “Shoot, coward, you are only going to kill a man."
