From the "Philosophical Parables" Column

One day, Anil Seth turned on the television, and the Lord God appeared on the screen.

"Are you John Smith?" asked the Lord God.

"No, I am Anil Seth."

"Ah, well, my apologies then—wrong person."

With those words, the Lord God vanished from the screen, and the BBC broadcast resumed.

"What was that?" thought Anil. "Ah, right—it was an uncontrolled hallucination. The threshold between imagination and reality shifted, making the imagined feel, as it were, real."

With these thoughts, Anil began unpacking his fish and chips, feeling a deep sense of relief when the unappetizing food appeared instead of little green crocodiles.
