🇨🇳 China expands consumer exoskeleton market

Chinese appliance makers and robotics startups are pushing exoskeleton devices beyond hospitals into the mass market, with firms including Haier showcasing products at the World Robot Conference in Beijing. Nikkei Asia reported that the devices are being marketed for broader consumer use rather than only medical rehabilitation.

The shift points to a new commercialization phase in China’s robotics sector, where established manufacturers and newer companies are competing in a still-nascent category. Expansion into consumer applications matters because it widens the market beyond clinical demand and aligns with China’s broader push to scale domestic advanced hardware industries.

If adoption grows, exoskeletons could become a new consumer-tech segment tied to healthcare, mobility and household robotics. Competition is likely to center on affordability, usability and manufacturing scale.
