🇰🇷 Semiconductors Lead Tech Leak Cases

South Korea’s National Intelligence Service detected 107 overseas industrial technology leak cases in 2021–2025, according to Trade Ministry data submitted to the National Assembly and reported by Yonhap. Semiconductors accounted for 40 cases, ahead of displays with 21 and electrical and electronics technologies with 10.

Of the 107 cases, 31 involved national core technologies, a category designated by the government as critical to national security and the economy. Semiconductors also led that segment with nine cases, followed by displays and electrical and electronics technologies with five each; automotive and shipbuilding recorded seven and six total leak cases respectively.

One cited case involved a former Samsung Electronics manager accused of leaking 18-nanometer DRAM process technology to China’s ChangXin Memory Technologies. The data points to sustained pressure on South Korea’s high-value manufacturing sectors.
