🇩🇪🇨🇳 German Industry Urges Harder China Line

Germany’s BDI industry federation on Friday called for stronger action to reduce economic risks tied to China, saying Europe should diversify supply chains and build new partnerships while avoiding broad protectionism. In a policy paper, the group called for a more consistent de-risking process, but did not specify concrete measures.

The intervention adds to pressure from German industry on Chancellor Merz to take a tougher stance toward Beijing, amid complaints about unfair competition from Chinese rivals. BDI said the EU should maintain rapid-response tools such as anti-dumping and anti-subsidy measures, while also weighing any new trade remedies carefully and expanding ties with other regions on economic and security grounds.

BDI also argued that Europe should adopt a firmer posture toward the United States. The position places German industry within a broader EU debate over de-risking China without shifting into full protectionism.
