Made several updates to the ✋FORMA app before it goes up for testing on TestFlight. FORMA is a simple macOS tool that allows you to stage any screen recording (of your desktop or phone) and position it nicely on any background, with simple configurations like corner radius, position, drop shadow, etc.

Added a few new features and I’m pretty happy with this version:

• GRAIN. Add film grain to the video for the vibes!

• PRESETS! Save presets with all configurations, so I can quickly reuse them in the future.

• RENDER. Updated render performance. What you see in the video is a 4K video being saved with a grain layer. It’s super fast!

I’m so happy I no longer need to use After Effects to do this quickly.

Perfume bottle by Oddity Fragrance has this beautiful cap that is made from discarded plastic toys collected around Hong Kong, from places like shores, abandoned buildings and second-hand stores.

The pieces are cast in transparent resin, turning collected waste into a beautiful colorful object, that is also a small archive of someone else’s childhood. Clearly this process produces unique results for each cap, which is also nice.

Not sure I’ve seen an image “carousel” like this one.

A sequence of images just changes position from right to left on hover. Super simple, and yet somehow mesmerizing.

Jeonsan System is a design studio run by Jeon San. The website was designed by Ayong Son, whose portfolio I’ve come across several times before.

Last week Johannes, co-founder of Berlin-based type foundry ABC Dinamo, gave a talk at Pentagram New York. In his presentation, he shared how the foundry’s main revenue streams have changed over the years depending on the types of projects they worked on, from actual font licensing to bespoke and custom typefaces and other initiatives.

The reason the chart starts in 2022 is mainly because, until then, they never really kept track of the money. The studio was simply too small.

And the photo is not a “snitch” photo. He did encourage people to take photos of this.

Saw a trailer for a new game that just came out called Future Knight.

Love the art direction here a lot! It’s clearly built around the visual language of 80s LCD handheld games, which had a very specific technical limitation. Those old games used predetermined LCD pixels for characters, enemies and objects, which could only switch on and off. But the environment was a permanently printed color illustration behind the transparent LCD layer.

Future Knight uses that static, pale backdrop aesthetic to create all of its environments. What used to be a physical limitation is now animated and moving, creating this really nice visual effect. The developers even came up with a name for it: “Liquid Crystal Pixel Art.” Lol.
