🇨🇳 China’s AI race is accelerating as US leaders call for caution

Chinese developers released 16 new AI models in a single month, intensifying competition with OpenAI, Anthropic and Google.

Companies like DeepSeek and Xiaomi are pushing increasingly capable, cheaper open-weight models, challenging the dominance of US AI giants.

While Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has warned about the risks of racing ahead with advanced AI, some Chinese developers reject the idea of slowing down, questioning whether US companies can be trusted to keep powerful AI accessible and affordable.

The financial stakes are growing, too. Moonshot AI reportedly reached a $50 billion valuation, while DeepSeek is linked to a potential $12 billion funding round.

But cheaper Chinese models could put pressure on US companies’ pricing power just as billions are being invested in AI infrastructure and development.

If revenue and profits fail to meet expectations, today’s soaring valuations could face a painful correction.
