❗️AI replacing jobs is no longer just a prediction
For years, we debated how AI would affect the labor market. White-collar automation seemed inevitable, but convincing real-world evidence was harder to find.
Now, the picture is beginning to change. Call centers are an early example of how AI can automate work previously performed by humans, and increasingly capable AI agents could bring similar pressure to other professions.
AI will create new roles, industries and opportunities, but there is no guarantee that these jobs will appear fast enough or in sufficient numbers to replace the ones being lost.
The assumption that technological progress will automatically produce a net-zero impact on employment deserves serious scrutiny.
If AI can perform more tasks at lower cost, companies have a clear incentive to automate. The consequences could extend far beyond customer support, affecting administrative work, finance, software development and other white-collar professions.
This is no longer just a question about what AI might be able to do. It is a question about how society will respond when the technology can do more of the work people depend on for their livelihoods.
