🇪🇺🌍 Brussels pesticide overhaul threatens African farm exports to EU

Proposed European Union changes to pesticide-residue limits could force African producers of coffee, citrus, flowers and other agricultural exports to change production methods or risk losing access to the EU market, according to an Africa Confidential article published on 1 October 2026. Researchers cited by the publication warned the overhaul could raise costs and disrupt trade.

The report said the planned rules risk colliding with Brussels’s stated goal of closer economic ties with Africa. It added that a sharp decline in African exports to Europe could follow if producers fail to meet the new standards.
