🇧🇫 Burkina Faso marks four years since Captain Ibrahim Traoré took power
People gathered at Place de la Révolution in Ouagadougou on Wednesday night to mark four years since Captain Ibrahim Traoré came to power in a coup. The anniversary event paid tribute to the armed forces and highlighted the military government’s record, while authorities said more than 1.3 million people displaced by insecurity have returned to their home towns.
Despite government-backed development projects in security, health, education, agriculture, industry and road infrastructure, large parts of Burkina Faso remain affected by jihadist violence and some towns are still under blockade. Commentators also cited concerns over corruption, freedom of expression and human rights, alongside calls for closer coordination with Mali and Niger through the Alliance of Sahel States.
