🇨🇩 DRC relied on foreign contractors in failed January 2025 defence of Goma, report says
A new investigation by the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organised Crime says the Democratic Republic of Congo government under President Félix Tshisekedi brought in Romanian military contractors, Israeli military trainers and companies linked to Erik Prince as M23 fighters advanced on Goma in January 2025. According to the report, Prince secured a multimillion-dollar contract with Kinshasa, while Prince-linked contractors later provided drone surveillance and technical assistance to Congolese forces.
The report also says Israeli advisers trained two Congolese special forces battalions and that private security contractor Agemira RDC provided aviation and procurement support to the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Goma is the capital of North Kivu province.
