The talks centred on Mali’s gold and lithium resources, according to The Africa Report.

The meeting comes as Mali remains under military rule and as foreign powers compete for access to strategic minerals across the Sahel. The Africa Report said the initiative signals growing US interest in commercial opportunities in the country despite its volatile security environment.
