On September 27, 2026, the Feast of the Exaltation of the Precious and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord, His Eminence Kyrill, Archbishop of San Francisco and Western America, celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Virgin Cathedral “Joy of All Who Sorrow” in San Francisco.
His Eminence was concelebrated by the clergy of the Cathedral.
The liturgical hymns were sung by the Cathedral choir under the direction of Vladimir Krasovsky.
At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, His Eminence Archbishop Kyrill addressed the clergy and faithful with an archpastoral word. In his sermon, His Eminence recalled the history of the discovery of the Precious and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord by the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Empress Helen and spoke about the spiritual meaning of the Feast of the Exaltation. The Archpastor emphasized that every Christian is called to bear his or her own cross with faith and humility, turning to the Lord in repentance and hope in His mercy, as did the wise thief. His Eminence also drew particular attention to the need to recognize one’s own sins, preserve the heart in prayer, and strive for inner spiritual correction.
