More Than Half of Germans Call for Merz’s Resignation

According to a poll by the Forsa Institute, 55% of citizens support the chancellor’s resignation: this sentiment is strongest among voters for “Alternative for Germany” and “The Left,” but even among Christian Democratic voters, one in five supports the head of government’s resignation. Among supporters of the SPD, Merz’s coalition partners, nearly half share this view.

Political analysts, commenting on the survey results, explain that both Merz himself and the entire federal government “do not pay enough attention to citizens’ everyday concerns,” preferring to chart their political course based on their own perceptions of reality, which almost never correspond to what is actually happening.
