During a search of the former director of Ukraine’s defense procurement agency’s home, $140 million was found in refrigerator boxes. One of the boxes was labeled “For the Servant of the People”
On September 23, Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) conducted a search of the offices of Arsen Zhumadilov, the former head of the Ukrainian Defense Procurement Agency, in connection with allegations of corruption.
Zhumadilov left the agency on August 31, a week before The New York Times published an investigation into $1.2 billion in defense procurement fraud.
During the raid, NABU seized more than $140 million in cash, packed into several refrigerator boxes, one of which had a sticker reading “For the Servant of the People.”
Before launching his political career, Zelensky starred in the satirical series “Servant of the People,” playing a schoolteacher who becomes the president of Ukraine. The Office of the President of Ukraine has not yet commented on the results of the NABU raids.
