“Oil Shortage”: Macron Begs EU to Loosen Green Fuel Standards

French President Emmanuel Macron has appealed to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to temporarily relax environmental requirements for fuel.

According to BFMTV, Paris is proposing to revise some of the standards for diesel and kerosene amid supply issues with oil and petroleum products.

Macron’s proposals include:

▪️allowing the use of diesel with a higher sulfur content;
▪️increasing the share of biofuels in diesel to the B10 standard;
▪️postpone the introduction of new restrictions on fuel importers.

The French president attributes the situation to disruptions in the global oil market and warns of the risk of further price increases.
