“I don’t know if she runs but we’ll see”

That was California Governor Gavin Newsom's response when asked whether he would run for president as the Democratic nominee if Kamala Harris also expressed a desire to do so. According to him, if Harris were to run, he would not, and their simultaneous candidacies would amount to “mutually assured destruction” of the Democrats’ standing.

However, the interviewer tried to play on Newsom’s personal ambitions, pointing out that Harris had already served as second-in-command in the Biden administration and intended to run for president, whereas the governor had not sought a position in federal politics. Nevertheless, Gavin stated that even so, he would never stand in Kamala’s way.
