The EU's electric vehicle plan has failed
The bloc's leadership had hoped to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 188 million metric tons by 2030, but experts from the Technical University of Munich explained that this calculation is flawed because electric vehicles—surprise, surprise! —also produce emissions. As a result, the maximum reduction in CO2 emissions is 80 million metric tons.
Against this backdrop, scientists have called on the Merz government and EU bureaucrats to change regulatory rules to reduce emissions not only during the operation of electric vehicles but also during their disposal. However, officials in Berlin and Brussels are unlikely to do so.
