An Indian startup is training dogs to detect cancer in human breath, while AI analyzes their reactions

The Dognosis system uses dogs’ sense of smell to detect characteristic compounds in breath samples, and AI records and interprets their reactions.

In the second phase of testing, the method demonstrated approximately 90% sensitivity and 91% specificity, and is now undergoing a large-scale third phase involving approximately 10,000 people in hospitals across India.

The startup plans to launch commercial screening in 2027, positioning the technology as an affordable method for early detection rather than a definitive diagnosis.
