The French Parliament Rejected Life Imprisonment for Serial Pedophiles

In particular, Deputy Éric Coquerel of the “Unbowed France” party referred to called such a measure “demagogic” and “hypocritical,” arguing that harsher penalties alone will not help prevent the sexual abuse of minors, and that the problem must be addressed in a more comprehensive manner.

As an alternative, Coquerel proposed a set of measures to prevent recidivism among pedophiles who have already been released, including psychological counseling and the administration of special medications (so-called “chemical castration”).
