🎞️ Dead Poets Society was based on screenwriter Tom Schulman's real-life experiences in Montgomery Bell Academy, a prep school in Nashville.

🎞️ In the original script, the boys discover that Keating is dying of cancer. The scene intended to justify his focus on seizing the day, but Peter Weir saw the film stronger without it.

🎞️ To establish a believable boarding-school bond, Weir made the boys live together for weeks & immersed them in 1950s culture.

🎞️ Those on set could sense the sadness in Williams. "Even (to me) at 18, it was obvious he was in a tremendous amount of pain." Hawke revealed.
