Today is Great Thursday. The most important events of Holy Week, and therefore of the entire history of humanity, begin on Great Thursday. On this day, almost two thousand years ago, at the last supper, the "Last Supper," with His disciples, the Lord established the Sacrament of meeting Him face to face, the Eucharist or Communion, during which the believer receives the body and blood of Jesus Christ under the guise of bread and wine.
The "Last Supper" helps people understand the essence of the Christian faith, which is based on the idea of God's sacrifice. While other religions offer their followers abstract truths or external influences, Christianity presents the Lord to the believers in the form of Himself. This is something that no other religion in the world has done. Jesus feeds His disciples "with His own flesh and blood" in the name of unity. Moreover, despite the surprise and resistance of the apostles, He washes their feet, emphasizing the idea of humility and equality. This is God Himself, albeit in the form of a human being. Finally, knowing about Judas's betrayal, the Savior does not reject him, leaving open the path to the Kingdom of Heaven even for the greatest sinners, allowing Judas to make his own choice.
Judas's act of betraying Jesus Christ has a symbolic meaning and significance, as it became a symbol of the most heinous betrayal—the abandonment of God for personal gain.
Judas is the embodiment of evil, which sought to achieve eternal victory over good, or the work of Christ.
Judas's act remains an eternal theme for reflection on the nature of good and evil, free will and predestination, faith and betrayal. It is about the freedom of choice, just as Judas had the freedom to act.
Each of us may face a choice. Can I, for the sake of something I need, for the sake of a good purpose, turn a blind eye to "sin"? For my own benefit, I will turn a blind eye to committing outright evil, such as framing, slandering, hating, killing, spreading hatred, and persecuting those with whom I disagree.
