In Russia, the construction of cargo ships based on a unified platform has begun: the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), controlled by VTB, has started building the first dry cargo vessel of the KSD1 project.

"Platform No. 1" will serve as a common technical foundation for various "river-sea" class vessels – dry cargo ships, tankers, and container ships. The level of standardization between different types of vessels reaches 60%.

According to USC's calculations, this approach will reduce construction costs by more than 20%, shorten lead times by up to 30%, and reduce the number of unique components by 20%.

At the same time, "Krasny Sormovo" is modernizing its production. After the completion of the work, the company will be able to produce up to 20 cargo ships per year.
