Don’t be afraid to give away too much for free
(Another Perspective on Free Content)
If you have to deliberately hold information back just to make people buy your paid product, the problem may not be your free content.
It may be the paid product itself.
The risk isn’t giving away too much for free. The real risk is solving the same problem, in the same way, that you later ask people to pay for.
For example, a travel blogger can explain for free which neighborhoods in Istanbul are worth staying in and which mistakes to avoid.
The paid offer can help someone plan their actual trip — the route, logistics, budget, and trusted places.
A simple framework:
Free — WHAT and WHY.
Paid — HOW to get the result.
So the question isn’t how much value you give away for free.
The question is: what job does your free content do, and what job does your paid product do?
If the free content helps people understand the problem, while the paid product helps them solve it faster and with fewer mistakes, you’re not giving them fewer reasons to buy.
With Tribute, you can turn that expertise into a subscription, a digital product, or paid communication.
