More products don’t always mean more sales
It seems logical: the more digital products a creator offers, the more likely subscribers are to find something that fits their needs.
But a large field experiment involving 1.6 million users found an interesting effect.
As the number of recommended products increased, the likelihood of a purchase initially went up. But after a certain point, it started to drop sharply.
Now let’s apply this to digital products.
A creator already has 14 guides. To them, it looks like a great selection: “There’s definitely something here for everyone.”
But a new subscriber sees 14 products and thinks:
“Where do I even start?”
Every new product gives the creator another opportunity to earn. But for the buyer, it also adds another decision to make.
That’s why a larger product range needs more than just more products. It also needs navigation.
You don’t have to remove half your catalog. You can simply make the choice easier:
“If you’re new here, start with this.”
“Want to solve X? Start here. If your goal is Y, choose this instead.”
Or arrange your products into a clear sequence: start here → then this → then this.
The principle is simple:
the more products you offer, the more important it is to show people not your entire catalog, but their next step.
You can sell digital products through Tribute.
