How to Turn Chaos into a Clear Plan: The SMART Method
We often set tasks based on emotions or just "for the sake of it." In the end, we either get the wrong result or no result at all. To avoid this, use the SMART technique. It's a 5-point checklist that turns any vague wish into an actionable task.
Let's break it down using a real-life example: promoting a Telegram channel.
❌ How NOT to do it: "We need to grow the channel."
(Unclear: how, for whom, why, and when do we check the results?)
✅ How to do it using SMART:
1. S (Specific): Attract new subscribers to a marketing-focused Telegram channel through targeted advertising.
2. M (Measurable): Gain +500 real subscribers.
3. A (Achievable): The budget for testing is $200 (or your local currency equivalent), and there is a targetologist (ads specialist) on the team. (If there were no budget, the task would be doomed from the start).
4. R (Relevant): This is necessary for launching a new paid product next week. (Without subscribers, the product won't sell).
5. T (Time-bound): Deadline — 10 days (by March 25th).
Final Task: "To the targetologist: Attract 500 targeted subscribers to channel 'X' within 10 days (by March 25th) using a budget of $200. This is needed for the product launch."
You have to agree, such a task leaves no room for follow-up questions and is much more motivating to execute!
Tip: Print out this scheme and keep it in front of you whenever you assign tasks. Your team's efficiency will increase dramatically!
