💭 History of options

🌐 Mankind has been using options since ancient times.

💬 The ancient Greeks 🇬🇷 made money by renting out olive presses in harvest years.

The right to rent the presses, purchased in advance by agreement for their future use, came into play. If the year was a bountiful harvest, the presses were rented out at a higher price, making a profit.

➡️ In the Middle Ages in Japan 🇯🇵 there was a rice exchange owned by the Japanese elite, the samurai. 

The exchange served for bartering and intermediary operations with rice.

Buyers and sellers "exchanged" for rice, the samurai could make a profit on a more stable basis.

🔈 The concept of option was officially formalized in 1973 at the Chicago Board Options Exchange.

The Chicago Board Options Exchange established a regime of standardized forms and terms by providing trading through a clearing house. The clearing house is called the Options Settlement Corporation.
