Tohoku Electric Power Co. plans to temporarily shut down the No. 2 reactor at the Onagawa nuclear plant in Miyagi Prefecture around October 17, 2026, due to a radioactive water leak caused by a faulty valve. This incident has brought back painful memories of the 2011 Fukushima disaster. However, the operator insists that the leak has been contained and that no abnormal radiation has been detected in the surrounding environment.
